About Gulmarg Gondola Project
The Gulmarg Gondola project comprises of tow phases, Phase I from Gulmarg (about 2,699.60 meters above sea level) to Kangdori(about 3.099.60 meters above sea level).

The Phase I of the project has been completed and commissioned in the year 1998. The work on the Phase II running from Kangdori to Apharwat(about 4.114 meters above sea Level) is in progress.

The Phase II of the Project is targeted to be completed by October 2003.
World renowned M/S Pomagalaski of France have supplied and installed the Ropeway system at Gulmarg Gondola project.

The type of system installed is detachable grip type in which the Gondolas carrying the passengers get detached from the carrying rope at the terminal stations. The Gondolas move at a reduced speed for convenience of passengers at the stations, but the rope speed remains constant. A number of safety devices serve as integral part of the system designed to ensure absolute safety of passengers back to station. Standard codes of practice such as OIATF and other reputed regulations of other countries like France, Switzerland and Austria have been taken into consideration in the design and installation of Gulmarg Gondola Project.

The commissioning of Phase (Gulmarg-Kangdori) of the project coincided with the 1st winter games held in Gulmarg in January, 1988, while commercial operations started from May 1, in the same year.
After commissioning of Phase I of Gulmarg Gondola project it has become a greate tourist attraction. The maximum hourly capacity of Gondola is 1500 persons per hour. With the commissioning of PhaseI of Gulmarg Gondola, thousands of tourist enjoy Gondola ride every year. The Corporation has been able to earn a good revenue from operation of Gulmarg Gondola Project.

In a bid to blend and integrate the Charm of Kashmir's beautiful endowed traditional trourist destinations with the modern day technological innovations, the Govt has come up with a number of special projects and schemes, to enlarge the scope of their charm universally. The one that has cought imaginations of all, assimilating and sustaining, the interest of all shades of visiting and local tourists. Is "Gulmarg Gondola" setup by the J&K State Cable Car Corporation. The Gondola has become Cynosure of all eyes, be it rendezvous of adventure tourist in summer or the forvays and expeditions of winter skier, after snow fall.

Gulmarg is also a winter sports area having finest, well graded Ski-slopes in the world. These rolling, grassy banks cover themselves with snow in the winter, making it a perfect Ski Resort.

From mid December, till the end of March, Gulmarg is winter sports resort. Skiing is one of the most exciting, thrilling and exhilarating sports in winter and Gulmarg is one of the cheapest Ski report in the world. Among the major Skiing acilities available is the Gulmarg Gondola Cable Car from Gulmarg to the majestic heights of the Apaharwat mountains, to facilitate the transportation of the skier as well as the adventure seeker.
